ART, ORGANIC FARM AND MEDIEVAL CASTLE
Wanås Restaurant Hotel opened in 2017 in two 18th century barns at the heart of Wanås. It is characterized by contemporary elegance – mixing vintage furniture, contemporary art, natural materials and rustic walls. In the hotel Nordic design meets sustainability, with materials and furniture sourced from the region. Wanås Estate is located in Skåne in the south of Sweden and easily accessed from Copenhagen. Wanås Castle has a history that goes back to medieval times and is today surrounded by a renowned sculpture park with an international collection. Wanås, pronounced "Vanoos" is situated 1,5 h from Malmö and Copenhagen. Travel to Wanås to Kristianstad Airport or to the international Copenhagen Airport where trains link to nearby Hässleholm. Nearest train stations are Hässleholm and Kristianstad.
Wanås Castle is situated on what was once the border between Sweden and Denmark and was a site for battles during the Danish-Swedish Wars in the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle burnt down, but was rebuilt in 1556. The Wanås Estate is organic and sustainable and Wanås is a sustainable destination.
The sculpture park was initiated by Marika Wachtmeister in 1987 and is today run by The Wanas Foundation – Wanås Konst. The permanent collection includes more than 70 site-specific works by artists from all over the world and is housed in the park, 18th century barns and farm buildings that surround Wanås Castle. In addition, there is a program with temporary exhibitions, performances, artists’ talks, workshops and guided tours in the park and in the Art Gallery.
